Do I have to pick a field at the start of the final year?

Yes, the field is chosen at the beginning of the year. Change it later only if you have a clear reason.

How are the points calculated?

Your points come from the grades of the examined subjects, multiplied by each school's weighting coefficients.

Can I switch schools later?

There are transfer and entrance-by-exam paths, but the initial admission still matters a lot.
