«Η ιστορία της Ανωτάτης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών ξεκινά μαζί με το νεοελληνικό κράτος: αφετηρία της, όπως και του ΕΜΠ, ήταν το «Σχολείον των Τεχνών» του 1837. Με τον Νόμο 4791 του 1930 έγινε ανώτατη σχολή και ανεξαρτητοποιήθηκε από το Πολυτεχνείο. Είναι το μόνο πανεπιστήμιο της χώρας αφιερωμένο αποκλειστικά στις Τέχνες, με μία Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών και δύο Τμήματα: Εικαστικών Τεχνών και Θεωρίας και Ιστορίας της Τέχνης.»
